My name is Mrs. D. and I am an author of children's books. I write because I have something to share. I write because maybe someday, someone in this world may need my experience. I write for one simple reason. I love how it makes me feel: free.
Rules Are For A Reason is the fourth book in the Carlo The Mouse series, written by Mrs. D. and illustrated by Chanoa. Against his parents’ wishes, Carlo the Mouse sneaks through the halls of the hospital where he lives. The head chef of the hospital makes such delicious food that Carlo desperately wants to become his friend, but the head chef only wants to swat Carlo with his spatula. After sneaking into the rooms of various patients in the hospital to steal their scraps, Carlo becomes quite ill. As his parents question his movements, Carlo realizes that the last room he visited had housed a patient with an infectious disease. It finally dawns on Carlo as to why it is so important to follow his parents’ rules.
I loved this beautifully illustrated and unusual story by Mrs. D. about why it is so vitally important for people to follow rules which they are given. Whether in childhood or in everyday life, there is always a consequence for each and every action we decide on. Although stealing food from humans is something mice are quite famous for, it is not until Carlo has snuck into the room of a patient who is carrying an illness which can be transmitted to others that disaster strikes.
Contagious diseases are never fun and are usually contracted unexpectedly, especially when the illness is transmitted just by breathing the same air or accidentally touching someone. When we are given rules to follow, it is so that the consequences of our actions will not be bad. Children around the world would definitely learn a valuable lesson in reading Rules Are For a Reason, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to be read by (or to) young readers aged 4-12, so that they can see that rules and common sense are vital if you wish to live a long and healthy life.
From Mrs.D: Once again Rosie Russell transports her readers into the world of animals, but this time on the farm.
“Beasley and Friends to the Rescue” is a delightful story about a caring and tender dog named Beasley. In this book, young readers will meet the anxious Lola Duck, who tends to overstate many things. Lola warns Beasley of bizarre noises coming from Farmer Bill’s barn. She is concerned, and sways Beasley to help her find out what is going on there. Beasley again turns for help to his friends, but Lola fusses over every little thing. Is this the end of the world? I hope not! The mystery starts right here...
Readers will enjoy this adorable, sweet book, with a charming little character, Beasley the dog, trying to solve the mystery of Farmer Bill’s barn. The colorful illustrations and lovable characters added a lot of charisma to the special surprises that Rosie Russell hid in her book. There will be many eye-opening sights, amazed shouts, and heart-melting sighs from the little ones as they join this great adventure. Friends help friends, sometimes disagree, and sometimes get annoyed, but still help each other solve the mystery. One word—wait for the surprise in the barn!
This storybook is perfect for children! Along with the pictures, youngsters will meet all kinds of amusing characters and caring animals. A lovely surprise for young readers, with captivating illustrations and an unforgettable story line! Well done, Ms. Russell!

"This is a fun children’s picture book. Children will become engaged and want to help Sheriff Williker uncover the mystery behind the lake monster. Solving this mystery was important to Sheriff Williker for several reasons, the main one being the Riverdale Fall Festival, and it will become important to your child as well. It was fun to not only read this story, but watch Sheriff Williker navigate the solving of the mystery. This book displays a great message for the young reader that things are not always as they seem and you can't believe everything that you hear. If you're looking for a lovely children's book that will keep your child entertained, add this book to your library." -- Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite
From Mrs.D:
This tale of adventure, mystery, and suspense begins with a rumor about the lake monster, and Sheriff Williker is on the case again! People speculate that if the gossip is true, then the yearly Riverdale Fall Festival will be ruined. As in the first story, “The Adventures of Sheriff Williker, Book 1: The Case of the Missing Horseshoe,” by Kim Hansen, that I read with my grandson, Sheriff Williker comes to the rescue. He quickly puts all the facts together, and the mystery of the lake monster is solved and the Riverdale Fall Festival is saved. This mystery story will leave youngsters on their toes as they try to solve the puzzle of the lake monster.
This book has a great message for children: think before you speak. Fear has huge eyes! With this said, this book is about a lot more than just mystery and adventure. It is a book of friendship, traditions, loyalty, family ties, love, and a splash of history. Excellent twisty mystery for young children, with smart and colorful illustrations every book lover will enjoy. I really think that this is a book that child and adult readers will enjoy in equal measure, making it a great choice for family or classroom reading. A cute and fun little adventure that will keep your little ones very busy!
Kim Hansen is an Amazon bestselling author/writer/illustrator of THE ADVENTURES OF SHERIFF WILLIKER, a new series of children's picture books, ages 4 to 8. Kim believes every child should be read to. THE AUTHOR’S INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ADVENTURES OF SHERIFF WILLIKER: The Adventures of Sheriff Williker was inspired by Kim's childhood memories growing up in a small lake community in northwest Iowa. She named the sheriff after a saying her mom often said, ‘gee whiz willikers!’ Kim’s grandparents lived in the quaint town of Superior, Iowa. They had strong family values and were the picture perfect ‘Norman Rockwell’ grandparents. In their spare time, they loved to garden and fish—grandpa in his overalls— grandma in her apron. Her grandpa was a U.S. Marshal and the town's sheriff. Her grandma was a cook at the local school and known as the town’s ‘doctor.’ Kim would sit and listen for hours in amazement at the stories they would tell her of the early days. Her grandma would say… "long before there were automobiles our mode of transportation was a horse and buggy—a kerosene lamp lit our way." Her grandma made house calls to deliver babies—many times traveling in freezing temperatures through snowdrifts. When Kim was sick, her grandma would make her feel better by giving Kim one of her homemade remedies—warm lemon juice, honey—and lots of love! Kim is also a talented artist/muralist. She owns and operates JK Hansen Studios, f/k/a Custom Murals & Designs. Her work has been showcased throughout Colorado, Florida, and Arizona. In 2009, Kim became involved in true crime book projects as an investigative researcher with self-published bestselling authors, Sherrie Lueder, John Hansen, Jill Hansen Smith, and Tyson Wrensch. Both books, "He Killed Our Janny" and "Until Someone Gets Hurt,” have won numerous awards and international bestsellers. The literary team has appeared as guests on numerous radio shows and television, including INVESTIGATIVE DISCOVERY’S ‘Forbidden’ and ‘A Stranger in My Home.’ In January 2014—combining her talents as an investigative researcher and muralist—Kim set out to accomplish her dream of writing and illustrating a series of children's picture books, THE ADVENTURES OF SHERIFF WILLIKER. In the spring of 2014, she self-published book no. 1,'The Case of the Missing Horseshoe," in both English and Spanish editions, and became bestsellers on Amazon Top 100 Books [Large Print] Children’s Books, and #2 in Hot New Releases in Children’s Books.
"Children and adults will laugh and cry through the experience of reading this brief, heartfelt book about the miracle of Charm." Rating 5.0 stars from Midwest Book Review.
Charm is a tender and loving story of a small cat that is found, lost and found again under the most mysterious conditions. It will make you wonder about life, love and the existence of a higher power. It will break your heart in half and put it back together again. You will fall in love and be forever grateful that you met Charm, if only in a book.
Ask yourself: Do you believe in the existence of a higher power and the other world? Do you believe in miracles and reincarnation? Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat is all in one story, which will make you think about these things and maybe you´ll find the answer!
From Mrs.D.
Sometimes noble things slip through our hands for a reason, just like in this sweet story, “Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat,” written by Leyla Atke.
Who doesn’t like stories about cats? These furry creatures always bring a smile to my face and brighten my life. I’ve had cats ever since I can remember. I enjoy their strange behavior and the power they have over humans. Most of us think that we adopt cats, but the reality is that cats adopt people. My cats always knew how to wrap me around their magic paw and teach me how to be their servant for life.
When I purchased “Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat,” I immediately knew that this award-winning children’s book would capture my soul. The story is based on true events, and the author takes us on a ride full of both happy and sad emotions. As they observe the unique bond between humans and cats, young readers will learn that God always works in mysterious ways by sending us something special when we least expect it. That is what happened to the girl when she found an abandoned kitten. Two pals quickly fell in love with each other and developed a great trust, which leads us to believe that animals should be set free, regardless of the danger awaiting them in the outside world. I share the girl’s belief and let my cats wander as they please. Luckily for me, none of them shared Charm’s fate, and they still enjoy their freedom.
One day the girl’s beloved cat disappeared. Devastated by her loss, the girl would not give up on her friend until she found what had happened. Searching the entire neighborhood, sadly, she only found his remains. The loss and guilt broke her heart, but a year later, something remarkable happened. Another special kitten came into her life almost the same way that Charm did. Would the girl heal from her loss? Were they destined to meet? Or maybe Charm miraculously came back as a little kitten to help heal the girl from her pain? Would she set her new kitten free as she had Charm? Not to disclose more of this heartwarming tale, I can say that this story is filled with love for animals, mysticism, and positive messages. This charming book can definitely spark a needed conversation about life and death, loss and acceptance. Full of contrasts and contradictions, it has great educational value for children and parents. The text is easy to read and understand for any age. Readers will enjoy the simplicity of the storyline and fantastic accompanying illustrations, done by the author, who poured her heart and soul into her delightful tale. I am convinced this poignant story will touch many hearts, as it touched mine. Remember, there is always a second chance to make things right.
From the Author
Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat is the gripping account of a remarkable experience in author Leyla Atke's life. It is a story that tells how things are hard to acquire and easy to lose when even slightly neglected. It is a story that makes the reader think about the existence of a higher power and the other world. It is a story about how anyone can be entrusted a certain mission from above...Or simply, it is a story about a miracle... Sometimes miracles do happen in our lives and Atke's miracle begins when she finds and saves a little black kitten from the middle of a busy road, where cars speed by almost hitting him. She takes the kitten home and named him Charm. But one day, Charm goes missing. When Atke finds him, it's too late. But then something amazing happens and restores Atke's faith. You'll have to pick up a copy of the book to find out what that is!

Karen Emma Hall is a creative new children's author. Her first series of stories for children debuted in 2014.
Karen combines skills of illustrations and words to draw children into the magic world of stories and reading.
Karen discovered her love of writing a long time ago while reading to children as an auxiliary nurse and a nanny. She helped children in the classroom with their art, and soon decided to put the two together - writing stories with illustrations for children.
Eventually she started working with the elderly, and found that they loved art and painting as well, so her stories are not just for the young but everyone, aged one to one hundred.
Her first series of children's stories are a little bit magic. They leave readers with that magic feeling after reading them. If you love owls and you love cats, then you are going to adore her fully illustrated books. All the illustrations in the books are hand drawn and painted.
The very first book in the Teeny Pheeny Tales series is very appealing, as it is the introduction of the main characters, Mrs Phoenix and Teeny Pheeny, (Pheeny coming from the word Phoenix) and the owl folk of Boohoo Village. This series brings you teeny bits of teeny magic. The owls are almost living and breathing as they're very endearing, funny and even a bit grumpy! It's all about the owls!
Karen has four daughters and two special cats (who turn up in the stories). She is very active on social media, and is very happy to reply to messages in person on twitter, where she also writes her own quotes. You can follow her on google+ facebook and her blog. Karen's blog is very popular and very amusing and a must read. Karen is currently illustrating more sketches and starting on her next children's amusing stories about cats... but she can't give away too much about that just yet!
From Mrs.D:
“Hello Teeny Pheeny” is one of those gripping children’s books that captivates children’s curiosity in a very special way. Filled with fascinating characters, beaming from the glowing illustrations and intriguing storyline, the story takes young readers on an exciting journey where they will interact with charismatic protagonists like Missy Martin, Mr. Gadgie, Lord Snoots, Mrs. Phoenix, and Teeny Pheeny, with whom children will fall in love the moment they meet.
“Hello Teeny Pheeny” is an adventurous story full of whimsy and magic that enchants and tickles the creative and imaginative minds of young readers. Sweet storyline and charming, simple illustrations make the book a perfect read for children of any age. It combines fantasy, quirkiness, and imagination, which will drive young readers to look forward to reading the next books in this series. The entertainment value in the book is worth more than the book's price. Highly recommended!
The next book in the Teeny Pheeny tales will be out at the end of April/May 2015, so if you love this first story you will not have long to wait for the follow up.

is the second rhyming book that I have had the pleasure to read from the talented husband and wife team of author Janice Spina and illustrator John Spina. Written in an easy-to-read style, this adorable story will take young readers along on the adventures of self-confident young Ricky the Raccoon, who likes to wonder alone at night looking for snacks. He thinks that he is invisible in the dark and that no one can see him. Little does he know that danger lurks around every corner and that there will be consequences for breaking Mom's rules. Through his adventures in the night, he learns his lesson: rules that his mom taught him are for a reason. They are to keep him safe and alive.
The story is written in a very gentle way. It is sweet and appealing, a wonderful teaching tool for preschoolers or beginning readers. Children will easily relate to this story because many of them already know what rules are for and some of them may have broken them already. They will have fun following this cute character through the sweet, bright illustrations, colored with pencils or crayons. Youngsters will love this type of artwork because it resembles what kids usually draw, simple pictures from their imagination. While reading about the little adventurer who thinks he can run free wherever and whenever he wants, children will learn a valuable lesson: there is always a price to pay if you do not obey your parents’ rules.
Another wonderful read from the Spinas! A great teaching book for parents, teachers, and babysitters. The rhymes in this charming tale make it perfect to read to the little ones in your life!
Janice Spina is the author of four children's books, Louey the Lazy Elephant, Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon, Jerry the Crabby Crayfish, Lamby the Lonely Lamb, copy editor and writer of novels and poetry. She is working on two more children's books and editing a novel, Hunting Mariah, for publication. Janice has written three more novels which she will eventually publish over the next year or two.
