Drystan the Dragon and Friends” series by Janice and John Spinas

Book 4

From Mrs. D

Learn to be a friend!

Delfina Solves a Problem is book 4 in the children’s series “Drystan the Dragon and Friends.” It introduces young readers to a new character: Delfina, a purple and pink dragon that loves to help everyone, even if they are not her friends. Not yet … but things can change dramatically when someone like Delfina jumps into action. While interacting with Drago, a bully dragon who was not nice to her and her friends, Delfina learns that his misbehavior isn’t because the little dragon is a spoiled brat, but because the mischievous dragon has problems of his own that he must overcome, and he needs some help.

The author sends a great message in her new book, which teaches not to write someone off, but rather look for other ways to help someone in need, someone who is struggling with sorting out their problems.

The artwork is simple but sweet. It looks like what children would draw at age 4 to 8. So this book is a good fit for pre-K, kindergarten, and early elementary school students.

All in all, Janice and John Spinas have created another nice children’s book that will help children to control their behavior, face problems, and make friends in a peaceful way.

Book 5

An example of kindness

In book 5 of the “Drystan the Dragon and Friends” series, Drago the dragon keeps his word to behave properly and help others. And because he is being good and follows the rules, his wishes came true and he becomes an orange dragon with special powers. Through his compassion, originality, and tenacity he flourished in good ways and was rewarded. Using one simple character, the author showed a great example of what small changes and kindness could do.

The illustrations are simple and recognizable. They fall in line with young readers ages 4 to 8. The story line is to the point. It teaches good morals and being nice to every living creature on Earth.

Overall, my grandson and I liked this new book for its great lesson and the discussion that we had after we finished reading.

Book 6

Kindness and helping others

My grandson and I have read 5 books in the “Drystan the Dragon and Friends” series. I’ve written our opinion on each book, and I can honestly say that the final book will not disappoint you.

It follows the form of the previous 5 books, written in a rhyme style that summarizes how to solve problems and help others. The cheerful artwork in a “childish” style brought uniqueness to these books, and we could not help but fall in love with each character.

“Drystan the Dragon and Friends” books are wonderful examples of what kindness, caring, and trustworthy actions mean and how they change both parties. The one who helps always feels good to be useful, and the one who needs help feels even better after being accepted after small changes.

In book 6, young readers will meet a new character, Dragana the dragon, who has big dreams. One day she meets the fairy and she jumps into action …

All in all, the ending is beautiful and really magical, just as the entire “Drystan the Dragon and Friends” series is, which should be read with youngsters ages 4 to 8.
